I have to agree with Notnoel regarding ownership as hobby. I can also attest to the expense of having work done, as opposed to doing it yourself. Blacksheep was bought as both a daily driver and rolling project. I bought a CE specifically for the factory lowered suspension. My modifications are largely safety and handling related, as the car goes more than fast enough. After 8 1/2 years and 80K miles I'm into it about $20K over and above the $4.5K I initially paid for the car. This includes pretty much everything but fuel and insurance. My position is driver/project manager, with my indie providing tech support. One of my goals is that this be the last gas engined car I'll drive. (I'm already looking into electric conversion.) To support that end, systems have been replaced with all new parts, and upgraded where possible. This car is better than when I bought it, more fun to drive and has several good years ahead.
At this stage of the game, any Classic 900 is a project car to varying degrees. I heartily suggest seeking an opportunity to drive a well cared for 900, both to see if it suits your driving parameters, as well as providing a sensory baseline should you search out one for yourself.
Good luck and let us know of your progress.
