I have the Saab 900 January 1989 Quick Reference Parts Catalogue for the 1979-1989 model in my office and it indicates that the 1987-1989 booster is different from the the 1986 and earlier. Therefore, it had to have the later master cylinder too. The MCs are quite definitely not interchangeable.
I'll be interested to check this on my EPC when I get home.
