Ultimate trans build plus quality motor, not sure it’s worth it Posted by Brandon K [Email] (#2382) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Brandon K) on Wed, 1 Aug 2018 22:51:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I finally got the proposal back for doing the trans and motor. I knew that the build was going to be expensive, however I was not expecting it to be quite this much.
For a trans built to the max extent possible (the type people dream about on saabnet) is about $7500 plus $1000 for transmission cooler then another $600 for the clutch for a grand total of $9100
Then you add another $4000 for the motor rebuild on top of that (quality restoration, but nothing fancy as far as I am able to determine...lots of new factory parts).
There is also a $3000 option to go with a T5 conversation.
Then the car still needs an interior and exterior restoration (quality repaint, exterior trim, new leather, head liner, some glass...) I am guessing $10k.
Add in another $3000 in incidentals like making the AC work, fixing any other drivetrain issues, leaking power steering, broken sunroof motor.
This brings me to $29k before I finish the performance mods like front mount intercooler, wheels & tires, turbo back exhaust, (car already has a lot of mods).
It’s looking like a $35k project. I am sure I could trim some fat, but not a lot if I want if feeling factory fresh and with a reliability 300whp.
That’s only $10k shy of a 996 variant 911 turbo.
I am thinking I will just end up making it drivable and slowly tinker on it myself. It will probably never get back to its former glory:(
