Brandon,

Thank you for posting at TSN!

300 horsepower with the B202 engines are very common and there will be several methods of achieving this target, although a majority of daily driven 900 owners opt to limit engine horsepower at this 300 BHP target.

Exhaust system enhancements with straight through design/louver-core muffler will be mandatory.

Front mount intercooler would be beneficial but may require removal of the 900 AC condenser to accommodate.

300 horsepower will typically be achieved with installation of a stand-alone engine management system, exhaust system, B202 performance cylinder head and camshaft set, and a turbocharger upgrade would be beneficial.

There will be many options for replacement engines, but many sources of OEM replacement components will be limited. Make certain that all components used are OEM Tri-metal Vandervell connecting rod bearings, chromium piston ring assemblies, etc. as integration of any other type, could greatly reduce engine longevity. Employment of the GLYCO/Federal Mogul connecting rod bearings or DEVES piston ring sets would create problems, and should never be installed onto any B202 SAAB engine. We have seen several customers getting themselves into difficulties upon receipt of what they thought to be a reputable engine overhaul only to see this engine fail in a short duration!

We have always been fond of the SAAB B202 engines for several reasons, and the attention to quality, and longevity, was paramount. The B202 cylinder block castings all employed a high nickel content which provides a basis for longevity. Matched with a forged crankshaft, connecting rod assemblies also provided strength, where required. Tri metal engine bearings plus chromium piston rings(Top Ring) always allow for excellent service life, plus the protection against engine detonation.

Best of luck with your project, and please inform this board as to your progress!

Sincerely,

Gary K. at SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
