So I just took my '88 900T 5 spd Convertible to be inspected. It fails due to a hole in the exhaust. I knew it had a hole, so I wasn't concerned (I tried to patch it but the inspector caught it, heh heh heh).
So I'm driving home and I'm at a stop light and I think I notice a little smoke from the front of the car...light turns green, I go, and no more smoke. Everything is fine. All mechanicals are OK, no overheating, etc.
Getting closer to my house, I notice the car isn't boosting fully into turbo, and when it does boost, it's jerky. So...I decide to give it serious gas to see what happens. I do, and the exhaust hole progresses to complete breakage of exhaust pipe at the cat. Now, my car is very loud.
I pull into my garage, get out to take a look and don't notice anything more wrong than usual in the engine bay. Then, I notice about a half cup of clear fluid is dripping onto the floor, from just below the "gear oil" dipstick (I think).
What is that clear fluid? It's not water...is it brake fluid? If it's brake fluid...I checked my reservoir and it appears to be full. My clutch is working fine- the car is shifting without a problem (but I only drove it up my driveway and back after noticing the leak).
Also- any ideas on the jerky boost? Would a broken exhaust somehow cause the turbo to misbehave?
And I was just telling a buddy that my 900 has been behaving really well lately!
As always, any insights are much appreciated. New exhaust on order!
Thanks,
Brian
