Need a 5 spd transmission, Duluth MN Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Sat, 18 Aug 2018 17:35:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The transmission in my '89 900S seized-up suddenly at road speed at about 5 hrs into an 8 hr trip to join the family for a fishing trip. Specifically, I was about 10 miles south of Duluth, Minnesota and had been cruising at ~70 mph for many miles and many hours. I popped the clutch and coasted to the breakdown lane at mile marker 225 on WI hwy 53. I called AAA and they got a flat bed tow truck out in about 1 1/2 hrs. In the meantime I googled for potential repair shops in Duluth and the car ultimately ended in the lot of Foreign Affairs repair shop. I was heartened by the site of an old 900 Turbo and other Saabs in the same lot and even more so when, the next morning, I spoke with Jeff Hofslund, the owner of Foreign Affairs. He agreed that the tranny is F-ed and is searching for a replacement-- apparently without success so far.
I figure it's worth a shot to crowd-source the search so here goes: Might anyone on the board conjure a 5 speed tranny suitable for transplant into my '89 900? If I can't find one at a reasonable price I may just have to abandon the car and give it over to Jeff as a parts car. I'd prefer not to do so-- I love the car-- but it's too far to tow home, where I could take my time to consider options.
Anyone have any pointers/suggestions?
