Bought a pretty beat up 1988 C900 Turbo Convertible today.

Original owner said transmission would occasionally slip out of gear, then daughter ran into a chimney at pretty slow speed and it stopped working altogether.

Currently, the car starts and runs in neutral. Stays running when put in 1st. When I slowly lift the clutch, the car starts to move but quickly a metal on metal scraping sound takes over. I haven't pushed it for fear of hurting something.

Any ideas what it needs? They said a mechanic told them the throwout bearing. Does that sound right?

Once I get the transmission sorted, I hope to tackle bumpers/trim/etc. Bodywork is surprisingly straight and rust free. 133k miles on the odometer.
