Definitely read between the lines. All 1985-1998 900 turbos are "two litre sixteen valve four cylinders," and there ultimately isn't much to distinguish one from another externally. I thought it would be more technical than that, but that was the takeaway from my conversation with the supervisor... same make, same displacement, same cylinder count, same chassis ("passenger vehicle") are the big details.
You need to present an exemplar VIN, I "used a 1994 donor" because I wanted the least restrictive emissions profile (older is broadly better than newer) and I wanted the most wiggle room in terms of modifications (<1996). 1994 fit the bill, and happens to be a year when both NG900 and c900 were made, and thus (I think) offered the least confusion. When you plug "1994 Saab 900" into the computer, you get "exactly" the car I have. Sorta. ;)
