We felt the conductivity between connector pins of a Dow GP 4 packed connector shell was influenced by contamination from fire fighting water/fluids, road water, and/or deicers. That did not explain reduced resisivity after immersion in tap water, although no effort was made to avoid contamination from the lab enviroment or clorine - chemicals in the water. The thing that struk me was how readily the stuff washed off your hands.
