Pre/post 1990 clutch compatibility

Will a clutch designated as the proper application for 86-90 9000 turbo fit newer 9000 turbo models? Say, 91-93? I know the 86-90 disc is an inch smaller (8.5") vs the 91-93 (9.5"), I'm interested in whether or not the pressure plate will bolt up...and if so, will the larger 91-93 clutch retro-fit to earlier 9000 turbos?

Just in case there's a know it all here, why did the clutch change (down to 9" this time?) AGAIN for 94-98???
