When troubleshooting my hatch's propensity to close before I could get back to the groceries when exiting the car. I took the latch striker out, and reversed the small plastic top piece on both sides, and reversed them. ( they were not worn symmetrically, and thanks to whomever posted that little tip in here somewhere). When I put them back, and tightened the mounting bolts on them to the highest point, my hatch stood up 1/4 inch above flush. I had to move it around several times to get it to flush up to the sides.
