You're probably safe. There's a brake fluid warning light (located below the fuel gauge) that turns on when the fluid level in the brake reservoir is too low. The warning light is independent of the ABS system. The warning light should turn on when you turn the key in the ignition. If not then you're not safe, due to maybe a burned out bulb in the instrument panel.
Sounds like bad ABS system wires, either between the ABS controller to the connector under the back seats or from the connector to the rear sensor. You'll know soon what to replace.
