To add to the frustration, the manager at the first store told me that since he sold car batteries on a daily basis he obviously understood a lot more about selecting the proper sized battery for my car than I did. I politely informed him that I have an MSEE degree and have managed the design of several battery powered commercial products (OK, no cars, but one was the previous generation of the product at the link - the battery had to last two meal shifts yet be small enough to fit) so I felt that I actually did understand a lot about batteries, and in my case bigger/more power is better. He didn't like that response at all and became even more adamant in his refusal to let me buy what I wanted with a warranty.
The only negative thing that I can see with a 34R is that the bare positive terminal is closer to the hood and might be vulnerable in an collision - perhaps I need to find a rubber "hood" to fit over the clamp.
