I wouldn't worry much about technical quibbles. 96 and 98 are about the same car, no difference in ECUs so switching in what worked to make the 96 a CSE will work fine in the 98. Yeah, an Aero ECU might give a little more zip but why spend bux if you were happy with the 96 as it was. Especially I wouldn't bother with the quicker-spoolup Aero turbo swap.
I didn't mention it but I doubt there's anything wrong with the turbo in your new car so unless you know it's bad I wouldn't bother with trying to swap out the turbo from your old one. There can be a nightmare's worth of trouble with loosening the various nuts and connectors, besides the mess of dripping antifreeze and oil.
Swapping ECU and BPC are an afternoon's easy screwdriver work, other than oily dirt and maybe a little trouble opening and holding loose the spring hose connection clamp on the underside of the turbo, from one of the BPC rubber lines, and prying said line off the spigot it has been sitting clamped tight to for gosh knows how long.
