I need to take a front strut/spring apart. Can I separate the spring from the strut by jacking up the lower control arm, loosening the top nut then gently lowering the control arm, thereby extending the spring? The only issues I can see is that the spring may be too long for this to work, or it may try to fly out sideways under pressure - or am I worrying too much about this?
