My 9000 drivers and passenger doors became very difficult to open. I found a little different issue than Ray did.
On my car I found the metal flag that the door handle roller pushes against had too much play between the roller and the flag. Also the outer door latch mechanism was slow to unlatch because of a lack of lubrication.
I would first follow Ray's excellent instructions on disassembly, although do not completely remove the door handle, just leave it hanging outside. Inspect the door handle roller arm. If cracked, then follow Ray's replacement instructions. If not, do the following.
In my case I only had to disconnect the ball stud from the door handle at the lock inside the door, and remove the black plastic window guide. I did not have to remove the door handle completely from the car.
Once the door handle is hanging outside the car, reach into the door with a pair of needle nose vice grips and bend the metal flag inside of the door slightly to decrease the distance between the door handle roller and the metal flag. You are only trying to decrease the gap. If done correctly you will have only a very small gap when reassembled. You do need some gap, although very small, like 1 mm.
Inside the door spray some lube all over the internal mechanism, and also spray liberally inside the outer door lock mechanism.
Double check you have a very slight gap between the door handle roller and metal flag after reassembling.
My doors worked like new after this.
