I had a 1994 that died prematurely due to severe rust in the right rear. Not the shock tower, but further back behind the wheel. I was new to SAABs and I was not paying attention.
I now have a 1996 that I immediately opened up in the rear and repaired a little rust and applied corrosion protection everywhere I could reach.
This morning I opened up the same area to check how it was doing and was alarmed to find water intrusion in the area. It took me a while to figure out, but it is coming from the gas fill ! It is bad enough to have salt spray from the outside, but rotting from the inside out is not cool. I suspect that this was the beginning of the end for my 1994.
I am going to tighten up this area later in the spring, but I thought others might want to keep an eye out. I think a full carpet liner removal once in a while to keep an eye on things might be a good idea.
