"Model Year" vs. "Anno immatricolazione", or Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Sat, 28 Jun 2014 07:10:31 In Reply to: And the winner is....., Giuseppe, Sat, 28 Jun 2014 05:45:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
"Registration Year". Most auto manufacturers have traditionally had a summer factory shut down during which the model changes for the next year were set up for production on the assembly lines while most of the workers were on vacation. The car that you are looking at may have been manufactured in the later months of 1994 (there should be a sticker in the door frame stating the manufacturing date) and would be a "1995 model", but some countries (UK in particular that I am aware of) refer instead to the car's "registration year" or the year that it was placed into service - I believe that this may be the case here as i do not know what is done in Italy.
The Low Pressure Turbo was introduced by SAAB for the 1995 model year and that's what this car appears to be. This is good, as the car has a turbo that can easily be upgraded for more power (plenty of posts about this here) and may have led a charmed life of low power output without stressing the other components such as the transmission!
Do check for body damage as the driver's door appears to have been repainted - digital cameras are very sensitive to white. I am a big fan of white 1994 9000s - here is a picture of the two that I have owned. You may have some room for price negotiation, as there is not a big demand for a 20 year old SAAB. Good luck with this if you decide to buy it.
