A couple of thoughts: Your engine that you removed a few years ago may have internal corrosion. You'd probably want to at least look inside the cylinders with a borescope. Inexpensive USB borescopes can be had for under $100. On the other hand, you know your old engine's history. Had you replaced the cylinder head gasket or other major work?
Then, the third thing is that you're probably going to want to separate the new engine and tranny, anyway, to inspect the clutch and perhaps put in a new slave cylinder.
