I have, or SHOULD have, a Snap-On 1/2" drive socket for the external torx on head bolts. I remember it as E16, or maybe E18. Anyway, not an odd number. Just hope I can find it. I've done a head gasket on a 9000 and did the timing chain for another guy who'd done his, so I have a pretty good idea what I'm in for.
THe exhaust manifold bolts on this head look fine and I hate opening up a rats nest I don't have to, but I suppose I'll have to pull both exhaust and intake manifolds and take the head to a machine shop. Anyways I may even if it looks warp-free, to have them install the new valve guides. At 197,000 it plainly will need them, even if they hadn't been cooked by this episode.
Hope exhaust studs and nuts are fine and don't snap. I replaced studs on another car with a set of Dorman studs for some Ford motor, cheapest set I could find that had enough M8 of correct length. Will probably do that again on this one. But not use the nuts that came with em, they had hard crimps to prevent loosening that were so severe they chewed up the threads going on.
