I am having a strange mis-fire on my 1998 CSE Manual Shift. The car runs like a champ at low to mid-boost "yellow" on the boost gage. Will pull strong to 4000+rpm.
But, as soon as the boost goes beyond yellow into red, the car misfires, lower the boost and it smooths out, raise the boost and it misfires again - any gear - any rpm, any speed. Thus far, have swapped out with a well-running sister car (97 CSE non Aero engine):
Fuel pump
DI Cassette (plus another used spare - all behave the same)
Plugs (gapped to 0.40)tried NGK set and a Bosch set
MAP Sensor
Pulse Width Modulator (The device near radiator with three hoses)
Checked voltage at fuel pump at getting full voltage
Filled tank to half with 93 octane
Checked pressure at fuel pump exit and getting pressure
Checked fuel flow at the gas tank return and it is not that plentiful, and sometimes has bubbles in it... This gives me concern - and is identical with two different fuel pumps. At idle - the pump sometimes will run for 30 seconds after start-up awith no fuel being returned through the return line (while holding the fitting into a catch can to watch the flow)
Any recommendations on what to check or measure next??? Or, what can be swapped with sister car? And, what might cause the fuel pump to under-deliver fuel - when it works fine in a non-Aero CSE sister car?
Problem started after I swapped out the fuel pump as preventative maintenance - and have since put the original pump back in.
