I think I did say to lightly step on the brake, the idea being you didn't want to push the piston far at all.
My style would be to take wild chances and risk blowing the whole thing apart instead of taking precautions to save trouble.
Do as BobS says - - or, leave one pad in anyways.
Not only rotor, but caliper too, is identical on C900 rears, if you do need one and have a junkyard source.
