On early 9ks sometimes there wasn't enough juice to activate the solenoid even when all the cables, ignition switch, etc were up to snuff, The solution (I found it on Tom Townsend's saabmaster site) was to add a Ford Taurus solenoid in series to the lead from the start terminal on the ignition switch to the saab starter solenoid. It worked on my 89.
