The Saab dealer (when they existed) used a machine shop that would only 'kiss' the valves. That meant that shop understood the Saab specs and treated those heads appropriately. When I do a HG and I suspect a valve issue I do what an old time Saab mechanic showed me. He would turn the head upside down. Then angle it so the valves face directly downward. Put enough WD-40 in the ports to cover the valve. If nothing leaks between the valve and seat no valve work needed. When I've had a valve leak I found it only took an little hand lapping to seal it right up. It's my opinion that Saab valves almost never burn. They just get some carbon deposits that need cleaning.
