Check the fuel filler vent hose which can be seen in the right rear wheel well, above the tire. It's a rubber hose about 8-1/2" long with clamps at each end. One end of the hose connects to a line from the charcoal canister, and the other to an anti-rollover valve. Dirt gets in when the hose breaks. When the hose is clogged with dirt or crimped air can't enter the tank to displace the volume of fuel the engine is consuming. That creates the vacuum, whooshing noise when you remove the gas cap, and can damage the pump and fuel level sender and cause no start problems. That is a lot of annoyance from a little out-of-sight and out-of-mind hose.
There's nothing exotic about the hose. I replaced mine with about 10" of 5/16" diameter (inside diameter) fuel hose. You can blow on the hose to verify that the canister line and anti-rollover valve aren't clogged.
