Will you be in a similar situation to MontereyAero in terms of the title? iirc, that was the main issue for him. If you can avoid having the title messed up, just get a new door from a wrecker in the same colour. I still see 9000's being parted here and if it's just a door, I bet you could get one cheap - waaay less than $2k. Heck you could buy a whole parts car for <$500. Also, check the classifieds here. There were a couple guys there selling parts car pieces, and iirc at least one barn find full of doors and hoods of classic saabs.
The stupid thing with this stuff is the insurance company couldn't care less about an old car, and they apply new car logic to fixing an old car. Easier to write off than fix and many want that anyway. But it is different for enthusiast cars. Swapping a door is cheap and easy. Repainting a door is not. To write off an otherwise good car with a known history and send it to the crusher is a shame!
Maybe if they haven't already got the insurance company involved it can still be saved, or maybe you can still settle out of their hands. Good luck!
