Replacing a door is not that hard Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Fri, 19 Sep 2014 16:21:02 In Reply to: Re: Yeah, car-part.com is the place to start., westernny, Fri, 19 Sep 2014 13:45:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had to replace the white (rare color) passenger side rear door on one of my 9000s, found one at a yard in downstate Illinois and had it shipped to me in Chicago. As I recall, shipping was almost as much as the door, but I did not have to have paintwork done - match was close enough for me on a 15+ year old car.
I replaced the door almost completely by myself - had a friend hold it up while I popped in the bolts when attaching the new one. The most difficult part is getting the wire harness out of the old door; eventually I just cut the hole in the door frame larger with some tinsnips, which didn't matter on the junk door! All of the wires (window motors, courtesy light and door defroster fan for the rear doors) are connectorized, so no need to cut any wires. To have a shop do this for your son should not be too expensive - and someone should be familiar with SAABs in upstate NY.
