The ECU relies on readings from the coolant temperature sensor (CTS) to adjust the fuel/air mixture. I will hazard a guess that the CTS is what's wrong on your car. On my previous 9000, I had an intermittent CTS that would cause the idle to get quite high when it went into electrically "open" mode (infinite resistance) - a new sensor solved the problem. Please post the code you are getting.
