I wonder if it's your clutch master. When this has happened to me (twice in the past), it has been the clutch slave both times. But the bubbles make me think of the clutch master cylinder. I would guess you'll put in a new slave cylinder anyway, since you have it open. I mean, such a cheap part, relative to the difficulty of replacing it. You could go ahead with your swap, put in a new slave, and then test it. If no go, then replace the clutch master.
