The '98 manual ECU part number is 4780268, and this is the same ECU that is in the '97 Aero. The part number for the automatic is 4780250, and this is the same ECU that's in a '97 CSE whether automatic or manual.
The difference is software. You're probably better off to have the correct ECU for the application for the sake of turbo, engine and transmission. My guess (this is strictly a guess) is that the Aero ECU will make your turbo, engine and transmission work a little harder. The T25 turbo isn't up to the demands that this ECU places on a TD04. You won't get the 225 hp, but maybe you'll get a little over 200. Maybe.
I doubt that installing the Aero ECU will cause a warp in the fabric of space and time. Just be sensible with the loud pedal if you do. If you really want to install it and forget it, then get the right ECU.
