Replacing front speakers Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sat, 13 Dec 2014 11:37:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On my 1995 CSE I'm getting distorted sound from the right front speaker that sounds like a torn speaker cone -- not unlikely in a 20-year-old vehicle. This car has the factory stereo set with HK speakers.
Looking through the archives here it seems like the simplest thing will be to replace the factory front speakers with a pair of 4" two-way coaxials, leaving the old tweeters disconnected. (I understand this means the speakers will no longer match the audio characteristics of the car's interior, but at my age the ears are not sensitive enough for this to make a difference!)
What's not clear to me is whether the entire dash top has to come off to get at the speakers, or do the speaker grilles come off separately like on the C900? How are the speakers attached underneath? Also any recommendations for coax speakers that are known to fit well in the available space would be appreciated!
