A couple of ideas:
I also used a 4x4 beam with some smaller wood extensions to hold up the engine while I did a different job (replaced damaged subframe), but I used about six feet of heavy-duty chain wrapped around it a couple of times and secured it to the hooks on the engine with Grade 8 bolts. I put a jack and a piece of plywood under the oil pan, lifted the engine slightly, attached the chain tot eh engine, then lowered it to tension the chain.
My SAAB indy usually rebuilds slave cylinders when doing a clutch job, unless the bore is pitted - the part that wears out on these is a rubber ring. That said, he has done it many times, so he is not as worried as I would be of failure and having to repeat the job.
I have been stranded by a pinhole leak in the clutch hose, so if you have never replaced it this is probably the time to do so.
Glad to see that you are keeping your 9000!
