Help! Can't get my transmission mated back to my engine! I am in the middle of a clutch job, and I cannot for the life of me get the tranny back in place. I have it hanging on 2 dowels (made from long M12 bolts with the heads cut off) and also suspended from my engine beam with a ratchet strap, but the transmission shaft isn't mating with the clutch disk hub. I already had to take it apart once already and clean up the clutch hub splines with a needle file because I had boogered them up trying to get everything to mate up.

Question 1 - is there any tricks I am missing?
Question 2 - how about if I mate the pressure plate and clutch assembly to the transmission first, then join the transmission to the engine? Looks like I could reach the clutch bolts through the inspection port although it might be a bit fiddly. Anybody tried this?
