94 CSE gas smell under hood Posted by anco361 [Email] (#1669) [Profile/Gallery] (more from anco361) on Thu, 8 Jan 2015 14:12:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all,
Have had a strong odor of fuel for a few months but only after car is shut down. No smoke. Performance ok. Would take about 45 minutes after shut down. Can't find any visible fuel but strongest odor around air intake tube (non turbo). Car has 105K on it. Last weekend did heater core, thermostat, blower motor, transistor, and replaced all 4 injectors while I was in there.
Test ran the engine in garage & cycled thermostat, shut it down and hooray ! No gas smell!
Took it for 15 mile drive last night and parked it in garage, came out about an hour later and sadly gas smell present but not as strong as before with old injectors.
Thorough inspection last night saw no visible fuel but smell still strongest around throttle plate/intake tube.
Drove car all day today runs so smooth and nice...huge difference w/new injectors and pleasant w/o antifreeze smell blowing out of heater. No fuel smell all day.
If it were just me driving it wouldn't be a big deal but
trying to get car in perfect shape to pass on to daughter-soon-to-be new driver,
appreciate any thoughts,
Thanks!
