Getting out a broken shift coupler tapered pin has really humbled me. I've experienced everything from rage to damn near giving up. Both the nut end & the fat end of the pin was sheared off, I was responsible for both. Busted a couple of c-clamps along the way, not to mention copious amount of expletives. In the end a $14.95 Heavy Duty Chain Breaker (as recommended by someone from elsewhere) did the trick. I highly recommend this tool for anyone who plan on ever replacing the shift coupler. Some minor modification might be necessary.
I'll now tackle replacing all the plastic guts @ the base of the shifter. Tired of years of sloppy shifting. Have all the parts but don't even know where to begin. After that I'll replace the top engine mounts with polyurethane replacements, the old black stuff.
Thanks to all who gave me advice on the forum on tackling the pin.
