Has any one had success replacing the ( oft to fail) output bearing inside the outside fifth gear cover while trans is in place? RR cover, select rev and 5th, undo locknut/pull gear: access to fat side of taper bearing exposed. Chisel inner race shoulder lip to work out rollers one at a time.
Then with flash pin point heat of inner race, then using thin gear puller, remove inner bearing race. Outer race: gentle warm to spit sizzzles on surrounding aluminum end case, and slide hammer with small jaw 90 degree lip and outer race removed. to 93 a flat dish washer provided pretension, Just torque brg on to where wrench torque jumps ( steady 35 FT LBS moving inner bearing, when dish is "bottomed" your wrench stops and needs 70 lbs to move again, stop there. with crush collar bearing tensioner, seat inner race to 35 Ft Pds, then when increase felt torque to 65 Ft Pounds and stake nut. Reassemble 5th gear fork and side cover. reply welcome. Don
