Cabin Heat Delay/Intermittent Function Posted by Daven [Email] (#290) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Daven) on Tue, 17 Feb 2015 12:18:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey everyone.
I need help diagnosing the issue I've been having recently with the cabin heater in my 1991 9000 turbo. I'd been ignoring the issue for the past 2 months but driving home from the Catskills last night in -10 deg. weather without heat was more than I could stand.
It took 10 minutes of warm-up (while I packed the car) and 20 minutes of driving before the heat finally came on. Before that, even with the ACC set on HI only cold air came through the vents. The first indication the heat was coming on was a faint whining that I guessed was the bearings in the blower motor. But by that logic, the fan motor must not have been working before, which was not the case. The fan motor seemed to be doing a perfectly good job of moving cold air at high speed...there was just no heat. The heat didn't come on in AUTO or ECON mode for roughly 30 minutes after startup. Once its working, it doesn't act up again for the rest of that trip (ie: food, gas, bathroom stops).
This problem only occurs roughly twice per week. It didn't occur when driving upstate on Friday night or when leaving the ski mountain Saturday afternoon.
Could it be the ACC unit? Is there an easy way to fault-check it like on the later '94< units?
Any help is appreciated!
