but it requires a near transaxle rebuild for replacement.
Options:
1- drive the car as-is with no speedo or odo (seems the 94/95 cases still get full boost in this situation)
2- buy a ~$500 mystery transaxle, install, and pray for the best
3- buy a rebuilt unit for ~$1800 ( I DO NOT recommend this )
4- pay to have your transaxle rebuilt and work with the shop to replace all normal wear parts- not just the ones that are worn.
FYI, the plastic speedo gear is an odd one. It needs to be heated up and then pressed onto the shaft it sits on. If it isn't done properly, it will lead to premature failure.
I went through this issue about 3yrs and 30K miles ago. After driving for 18mos without speedo or odo, I finally bit the bullet and bought a rebuilt trans. It failed 8mos later. Then I had a local Saab tech rebuild it and I've put on about 25K happy miles.
