I'm pretty sure the intention when they state a standard, in this case SH, is that it is the minimum standard, not the only standard. I.e., you must use at least SH, but SJ is acceptable as well. This only makes sense. Look at the recommendation from 1995, it was SG. If one were to assume that SH, which was available then, was not acceptable then why in 1998 is it suddenly acceptable for the exact same engine? If I have a car that was made when SG was the highest standard, do I have to try to find oil meeting only that standard? Do they even make it anymore? Common sense would dictate that the higher standards supersede the previous ones, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
