No issues in any of our current 4 Saabs or in the two other 9Ks we had. Use the same oil in all of them: '96 9K (221K), '00 9-3 (226K), '99 9-3 (173K) and '03 9-5 (138K). The previous '95 and '96 9Ks used the same stuff. Neither used much oil. No engine issues.
The present 9K uses no oil. The '00 9-3 uses a quart every 3K (some leaks). The '99 9-3 and the 9-5 use a quart every 4K. The 9-5 has used a quart every 4K since we got it at 40K miles. No change over time, although it uses a little less since switching from M1 0-40 to the 10-40. The 9-5 has run synth all its life.
I forget what the API spec is on the M1 10-40 HM, but it is ACEA A3/B3. I figure it's fine for the older cars. I've had the 9K since 91K and have used this oil since about 140K or so.
IMHO, these oil discussions get a bit circular. Run a good quality oil. Change it every 5-6K miles and it's all fine. FWIW, my '96 9K ran on dino oil for the first 90K miles, changed every 3K. And the '99 ran on dino for 135K miles changed every 3K (have the records). The '00 9-3 had M1 all its life, every 5K.
