97 Aero audio head unit replacement Posted by skibumm100 [Email] (#3255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from skibumm100) on Sat, 21 Mar 2015 10:01:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The sound was dropping out in my 97 Aero. I finally got around to swapping out my HK head unit with the one in the 97 CSE to see if it was an amp problem or the head unit problem. Turns out it's the head unit. Everything appears to function with the head unit but no sound output. I tried reseating it in the DIN bucket but no dice. It doesn't produce sound when installed in the CSE either and the CSE unit work fine in the Aero. Bad head unit. This is the second HK head unit to fail in the last two years. My Aero has the remote CD in the back so I plan to move the CSE head unit to the Aero to retain that function and replace the CSE head unit with aftermarket. I looked on Crutchfield and was surprised how inexpensive they are. I would like to have a CD player and aux inputs for USB or RCA style media players. I think most people bypass the factory amp.
A couple questions:
Does Crutchfield's adapter plug make the job any easier or is it best to just splice in the wiring? Is there a color coded wiring diagram online anywhere or do I need to just figure it out myself? Any other suggestion for this job? I searched the archives but a lot of the threads are about the older Clarion stuff, of which I still have in a bin somewhere left over from my 90 and 93.
