Hmm. Could the DI fail in such a way that it mistimes?
Camshaft marks are lined up, and cylinder 1 lobes (intake and exhaust) are pointing away from the head center line with the engine at TDC.
A note on that, though: the TDC notch on the crank pulley has never lined up with the timing cover line when piston 1 is at its highest. It's a few degrees off. I used the camshaft marks instead to align TDC before taking everything apart.
Tensioner was fully retracted before installing, and it didn't go back in until the chain was on and sprockets tightened to the cams. I rotated it by hand to let the tensioner take up slack, and checked that TDC marks on the cams lined up with piston 1 at the top.
I also put colored zip ties through the links that corresponded to the tick mark on the sprockets before removing the chain, and even color coded the intake/exhaust sprockets to the links to make sure they went back the same way. Not sure if that was necessary or not.
What did I miss?
