First of all, you're a crazy b*stard for going to all that work for a used slave cylinder. Just order a new OEM one, or if you really want re-build your own or order a used one and rebuild it. Secondly, yes you need 4x4 and couple of ratchet straps to safely drop the trans, or the pick-n-pull yard should have these giant engine hoist and wheels things you can use to pull it out the top though I'm not sure that would be easier. Third, I'm also worried about the 'sticking' hydraulics, I guess it could be corrosion in one of the cylinders but this isn't the common failure mode (though I have had one slave fail 'open' so I guess anything can happen. Have you tried bleeding the system, and replacing the soft clutch line which can supposedly cause these symptoms first. It's probably worth trying before pulling the trans.
