Both front doors have a microswitch located near the end of the lock cylinder. The microswitch informs the central lock controller when you turn the key to the lock or unlock position. The central lock controller in turn signals the alarm system to turn on or off.
You probably have a bad microswitch on the driver door. The switches are handed, so you can't replace the driver door microswitch with a microswitch from a passenger door.
You didn't say whether central locking works when you turn the key in the driver's door. My guess is it works when you turn the key in the passenger door but not when you turn the key in the driver door.
When my microswitch went bad I bought a used door handle which came with a good microswitch.
