It is Possible to Remove the Trans Without Jack/Hoist Posted by Roger D [Email] (#1121) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Roger D) on Mon, 25 May 2015 19:08:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Several weeks ago I asked about retrieving a slave cylinder from a parts car. The car was a 87T in a nearby U-pull-it. Jacks aren't allowed. They have rolling chain hoist but it is a bear to move thru the soft loose gravel. So: I unbolted the ball joint, unbolted the top strut nuts. Loosened the tie rod, sway bar on both sides, trans mount thru bolt. Inner fender panels came out, CV nut came off, caliper went to the side. The nice part is the 3 piece subframe. Removed the uderneath bolts . Then the frame swings down out of the way still held by the front and rear horizontal bolts. Shift rod of course and the engine hangs down with plenty of clearance to unbolt the trans and slide it out. Then dragged it out with the driver's axle still attached. Tried to get the T30 slave bolts out but my T30 security bit collapsed and stripped 2 bolts. I brought the whole trans home so I can get the slave out in the garage.
