Hey folks. Just replaced my alternator in an hour. It was surprisingly painless.

It came out the top without my having to lever the engine in any particular direction. I was very pleased.

Step 1: Remove neg & positive battery cables from the battery.
Step 2: Remove MAP Sensor (vac line & plug, just get it out of the way
Step 3: Remove the rear upper motor mount.
Step 4: Disconnect the grounding strap from the passenger stride strut mount
Step 5: Disconnect the vac line to the charcoal cannister where the elbow connects to the intake manifold just behind the throttle body
Step 6: Lift the power steering reservoir (hoses attached) and swing it towards the back of the engine bay and towards the driver side, let it rest to the driver side of the oil filler neck.
Step 7: Crack loose the upper bolt on the alternator (8mm hex key / allen wrench) and loosen it a few turns
Step 8: Remove the serp belt
Step 9: Crack loose the bottom bolt on the alternator and loosen it a few turns. you can squeeze a ratchet in there with a 8mm allen socket attached to it.
Step 10: Remove the 13mm nut holding the positive lead to the alternator - don't drop the washer
Step 11: remove the 8mm nut holding the wire for the excitor
Step 12: remove the false firewall - one 8mm screw on either side. the wiring harness connects through this, but you can rotate it out of your way - this provides the extra room you need to remove the alternator through the top.
Step 13: remove the alternator bolts. after you've loosened them slightly you can turn them easily by hand. the upper won't come out completely, the bottom one will if you pull it down after pulling it out
Step 14: gently pry the alternator from the bracket, towards the firewall.
Step 15: rotate the alternator such that the pulley is pointed up and the two mounting holes are pointed towards the firewall
Step 16: lift it out. It came out without incident for me. Bosch 110 amp alternator. Piece of cake.

Removing the bit of firewall really helped make room.

I found this saved a ton of time for me. No power steering pump removal, no wheel or fender liner removal. There is some blind work, and it can be difficult to get the 8mm allen wrenches inserted just so.

There are several writeups, but most seemed to advocate for work in the wheel well and on the lower part of the engine. Thought I'd add my $.02 to the conversation.
