Was out recharging (or so I thought...) the battery in our '93 9000, which had sat for a while, undriven. I had put the battery on a trickle charger for an hour or so in order to be able to start the car. Drove around the neighborhood for about 15 minutes, everything fine, battery light is on the whole time. Pulled up to a stoplight, car dies. Dunno why I did this, but shifted into Park to restart, and the car was completely dead.
As a result, there was no way I could shift the car into Neutral in order to push it out of the way until I could either jump it or have it towed. Not good! I assume this is just the way the interlock is supposed to work, but it got me wondering. Is there a way to move the shift lever, with no power, on a 9000? Or is something else at work here?
Oh, BTW, since the car was scheduled for some repair work the next day, I ended up just AAA'ing it to the shop... when the tow truck driver showed up, it was an easy jump start, so I can assume the battery is toast...
