Just thought I should chime in since my manual trans swap thread is recent. Most of the trouble I brought on myself by lubing the release bearing surfaces more than I should have. Add to that I think I managed to bend ever so slightly one of the alignment bolts. I'm just in from successfully getting it stabbed after cleaning up the input shaft and release bearing so that it stays in place. removing one of the alignment pins must have given me the lateral movement I needed to get it stabbed.
It's a job that's easier with either the brace above the engine or an engine hoist. I went back to my engine hoist after trying the floor jack method. The engine hoist coming from the driver side let me lay underneath the car and make tiny adjustments with the lift jack to bring everything parallel, guide the intermediate axle into place, etc. As others encouraged me, it's a game of small adjustments to angle then it slipped right into position. Since mine lacked the attachment point that balances it I found it made a big difference in control by looping a double sling made of a tie down strap to support it evenly. I think yours will have that threaded hole to put a tow loop into.
Best of luck to you - Owen
