From what I've read the 1993 models have a lot of 1-year only parts which makes it even less tempting. Although I would normally not advocate a Saab 9000 as a throwaway $500 car this one might fit the description, assuming it's currently roadworthy.
I hear you on the '96 cutoff, but I did buy a 1995 CSE last year because it was a very nice 1-owner, low-mileage, unrusted, garage-kept example with full service records. Normally something like that is unobtanium in this area! Fortunately it's a non-TCS car. The only pain in the butt is not having OBD-II for emissions testing (they have to do the old sniff test) or pulling codes if something goes wrong. So far it's been great though, have only had to fix a couple of minor items.
