Maybe it would be possible to connect the old thermostat into a generic pad? Or assuming it has its own internal temperature regulation as you say bypass the 9000's system and just have it provide power.
I don't necessarily like gerry-rigging stuff to work either -- 50 is way in the rearview mirror for me! But when you drive an older vehicle from a defunct manufacturer sometimes you have to get creative. Parts for these cars are not getting more plentiful as the years go by.
